An Invitation to join
Windy City Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society.
We are a rapidly growing club, serving the greater Chicago area for people interested in old trucks and trucking. As part of the national American Truck Historical Society, the Windy City chapter was formed in February 1983.
Our chapter meetings are scheduled for the third Monday (7:30 pm) of every month. We alternate north and south side locations to accommodate as many members as possible. There are times when we will have a combination tech session and meeting on Saturday when something of interest comes up.
In addition to discussion of club business and upcoming events, there are movies and tapes on trucking and related topics, talks given at times by members or guests on many aspects of the hobby; history, collection, and restoration of old trucks. A television set and video player owned by the chapter is used for viewing of tapes at meetings. A tape library has been started, members can borrow tapes.
Monthly newsletters are sent to members, announcing upcoming events, trucks and parts for sale, and other matters of interest. Occasionally, announcements are sent between newsletters to keep everyone up to date.
We try to participate in as many outdoor truck shows and parades as we can. An annual truck show at Hines Veterans Hospital is always well received. Each year we also display trucks at the Illinois Railway Museum for their “Transportation Day” event. We have our anniversary banquet in April.
Our main fundraiser is the sale of magazine binders to hold the back issues of the National club magazine, “Wheels of Time”. We also have an ongoing founders award project, which has proved to be very popular with the membership.
The club year runs from January 1 to December 31.
Our annual dues are $15.00. New members joining after September receive a fu11 15-month enrollment at the annual rate. One need not own a truck to join, but you must be a member of the National. (We will furnish you with that application.) The only requirement is a genuine interest in trucks and trucking.
