JIMS DIAMOND T NAMED LULABELL
MY NAME IS JIM AND I AM THE OWNER OF A 1941 DIAMOND T TRUCK WHICH HAS A 2 1/2
TON REAR AXLE. I BOUGHT HER SOMEWHERE AROUND 1955. SHE IS NOW LICENSED IN THE
STATE OF MICHIGAN SO I NO… LONGER HAVE ANY DATE OF PURCHASE THAT I CAN FIND AT
LEAST. UNDOUBTEDLY SHE WAS A GRAVEL HAULER AND MOST LIKELY A SNOW PLOW ALSO.
HER ODOMETER HAS BEEN AROUND THE LIMIT SEVERAL TIMES SO THERE IS NO WAY OF
KNOWING JUST HOW MANY MILES SHE HAS LOGGED
LULABELL WAS ORIGINALLY A ILLINOIS STATE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE TRUCK AND WAS
PAINTED THE USUAL UGLY ORANGE LIKE MOST OF THERE TRUCKS. HOWEVER WHEN I
BOUGHT HER SHE HAD BEEN CONVERTED INTO A LOGGING TRUCK WITH A TWO BOLSTER
LOG RACK AND A AUTOMATIC RELEASING MECHANISM TO UNLOAD THE LOGS.
THERE WAS NO WAY TO TELL WHAT COLOR SHE WAS BECAUSE SHE HAD BEEN RECOATED
WITH PAINT MANY TIMES AND HAD BLACK BLUE AND ORANGE COLORS SHOWING THROUGH
AT DIFFERENT PLACES.
SHE NOW SPORTS A JOHN DEERE GREEN COAT WHICH NEED TO BE REDONE. I RE-DECKED
HER IN 1963 WITH A 16 FT. FLAT BED DECK, AND THAT IS THE WAY SHE IS TODAY. MOST OF
HER HAULING SINCE 1963 HAS BEEN HAY. SHE IS RETIRED NOW AND THE LAST TIME I TRIED
TO START HER SHE HAD TWO VALVES WHICH WOULD NOT OPERATE APPARENTLY STUCK
OPEN. SO NOW I AM PLANNING TO OVERHAUL THE HERCULES THIS SUMMER AND GET HER
BACK ON THE ROAD MOSTLY FOR SHOW AND NOT WORK.
YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE HEARING MORE STORIES ABOUT ‘ LULABELL’ IN THE
FUTURE SHE IS QUITE A TRUCK AND A POWERHOUSE. (FEB. 11, 2004 )
