I’d say try it out! If it’s too wide, I’m sure a good shop could cut equal amounts of material from either side of the middle section, and put it back together so it looks original…. is it painted steel or chrome?

I’d say it would be difficult to tell what it’s worth without a few pictures. Are you buying or selling? There was an ad circulating a year or so back from a fellow that was getting rid of his for free, just wanted it off of his property.
