Memories from Gordon Johnson
I’m a fan of trucks and cars of all types, the more obscure the better. The reason I went to Diamond T website is that when I was a youngster, my Dad had a 1950-51 DT road tractor………….more I know it was gas, not diesel, and before he got rid of it he had the frame extended and installed a dump body. I think I recall it was a Model 720 (or 721?) and it had 11.00×20 rubber. As a dump truck he used it to haul gravel and stone when they were building the New York State hruway (I90 now.) That would make the year about ’53 or ’54. Dad hired a driver for it, and in trying to change a clutch in it, the man dropped the flywheel on his chest and was killed. Dad had dubbed the truck “Double Trouble” long before this incident, and I think he sold it “as is” with the transmission still out of it.
